Afghan Ideas and Finished Scarf

I haven't been able to spend a great deal of time crocheting the past couple of weeks due to work and craziness of life. I want to change that and I need to get started on an afghan that I am making for a birthday in May. I have never made an afghan so I want to stick to a pattern that is somewhat simple so that I can finish it in time and be happy with the finished product. I have a couple of ideas in mind, but just need to make my final decision.

Here are some of the patterns I am thinking of:

I am pretty indecisive and I keep seeing more patterns that I like, so this could be hard! My goal is to make a decision by the end of the weekend!
In other news, I completed my checkerboard scarf and am pretty pleased with how it came out....

Now, I just need to finish up a couple of works in progress and get started on that afghan! Happy crocheting!

Weekend Ski Trip & Gloves

This weekend I went on a ski trip to New Hampshire with my boyfriend. Skiing is not really my thing, but my boyfriend has been wanting to go so I planned the trip as a Christmas gift to him. I had a great, relaxing weekend, even though my skiing may have been disastrous. We got a group lesson and after two hours on the bunny slope, I was one of two people in the class that the instructor decided was not ready to move on to the beginner slopes. However, I was not going to spend the entire day on the bunny slope, so decided to disregard his recommendation and chance the slopes. I may have been all over the place and look ridiculous, but I only fell twice and that is impressive for me.

The car ride there should have only taken 4 hours, but took us close to 7 hours due to traffic. Luckily, this gave me some time to start those gloves I've been wanting to make, but they are not coming along quite how I want. First of all, I keep losing stitches somehow and need to keep tearing out entire rows and starting over. The yarn that I am using is really thin and unravels easily, so it has been difficult correcting mistakes. The yarn is also becoming extremely fuzzy and the tearing out of stitches is not helping with that. I'm really dissatisfied with how it is looking so far and wondering whether I should finish it or start over. I have put a lot of time into it so far so it depresses me to think of starting from scratch, however I also don't want to put more time into finishing it and ultimately not be happy with the finished product. Here is a picture of the first glove so far....

In the mean time I think I will start on my next project while I decide what I am going to do with this one. I also have finished my checkerboard scarf and just need to finish weaving in the ends. I will post a picture of that once I am finished!
